Astronomer hires Gwyneth Paltrow as ‘temporary spokesperson’ – NBC New York

Gwyneth Paltrow has landed a surprising new gig.

On July 25, Astronomer revealed in a video shared on social media that the actor and Goop founder is now their “temporary spokesperson.” Debuting in her new role at the data operations company, Paltrow answered the internet’s most-talked-about questions.

Thanking people for their interest in Astronomer, the actor begins by saying she’s “been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300-plus employees” at the company.

“Astronomer has gotten a lot of questions over the last few days, and they wanted me to answer the most common ones,” she continues, as the first question appears.

“OMG! What the actual f,” it reads, before Paltrow chimes in with her answer.

“Yes, Astronomer is the best place to run Apache Airflow. Unifying the experience of running data, ML and AI pipelines at scale. We’ve been thrilled so many people have a newfound interest in data workflow automation,” she replies. “As for the other questions we’ve received…”

The second question then appears on the screen, which reads, “How is your social media team holding…”

Once again, Paltrow interrupts and answers, “Yes, there is still room available at our Beyond Analytics event in September.”

Paltrow continues, “We will now be returning to what we do best: delivering game-changing results for our customers. Thank you for your interest in Astronomer.”

The video comes after the company has made headlines after the resignation of two of its employees. On July 19, Astronomer confirmed that CEO Andy Byron resigned from his position following a viral video from a Coldplay concert.

Additionally, the company’s chief people officer, Kristin Cabot, also left her position, the data operations company confirmed to TODAY.com on July 24.

Byron and Cabot did not respond to NBC News’ request for comment.

Byron was identified by social media users as one of the people in a viral video from a July 16 Coldplay concert kiss cam. The clip shows two people embracing before abruptly hiding from the camera.

Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin — and Paltrow’s ex-husband — then joked, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.” The moment quickly went viral.

In a video posted to social media from Saturday’s concert, singer Chris Martin didn’t directly address the moment that circulated widely online.

After Byron’s resignation, Pete DeJoy was announced as Astronomer’s interim CEO. DeJoy issued a statement on LinkedIn about the company’s “unusual and surreal” attention it had been getting, without mentioning the viral video.

In his statement, he noted, “While I would never have wished for it to happen like this, Astronomer is now a household name.”

Meanwhile, people in the comments section of Astronomer’s video with Paltrow praised the company for its creativity.

“Gwyneth Paltrow is Chris Martin’s ex wife. 10/10 PR move,” one person wrote, while another added, “INSANE TO GET CHRIS MARTIN’S EX.”

“Apologies, I was unfamiliar with your game 🔥 Give your social and PR team their due!!!! And a few well-earned days off!” someone commented.

“brilliant and very funny!!! kudos to PR team. I’d buy whatever you’re selling!” read another message.

Julie Bowen has seen all those comparisons between the viral Coldplay concert kiss cam and Gloria and Phil’s hilarious scene from “Modern Family.” The Emmy winner chatted with Access Hollywood’s guest correspondent Emily Orozco at the “Happy Gilmore 2” premiere.
