On a central Astoria block, a brand new rental is launching a lottery for below market-rate apartments. At 29th Street and Broadway, the Amara offers high-end apartments and amenities, including a parking garage and electric vehicle charging. Qualifying New Yorkers earning 130 percent of the area median income can apply for the 28 middle-income apartments, priced from $2,275/month studios to $3,700/month two-bedrooms.

Designed by Fogarty Finger Architects, the Amara is a six-story building with 92 units and ground-floor retail space. As Patch reported, the development replaces a row of storefronts that were demolished in 2021.

Apartments feature Bosch appliances, in-unit washer/dryers, and Kohler fixtures. Some apartments come with private terraces.

Amenities include a fitness center, a library, conference rooms, a pet-washing station, storage units, a parking garage, and a rooftop deck. The building is conveniently located next to the N and W trains at Broadway and the E, F, M, and R trains a little further away at Steinway Street.

Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the apartments until November 27, 2024. Complete details on how to apply are available here.

Questions regarding this offer must be referred to NYC’s Housing Connect department by dialing 311.
