A new installation at the highest outdoor observation deck in the Western Hemisphere saturates the New York City skyline in a new light. “Shades” debuted this week at Edge, the 100th-floor indoor/outdoor sky deck at 30 Hudson Yards, with sections of transparent colors splashed across the observation deck, transforming the view. The immersive exhibit challenges visitors to explore how changing vantage points alter the perception of the city around them.
Most of the outdoor sky deck remains clear, with stripes of vibrant hues on the glass panels revealing the city in a new way, keeping the unobstructed 360-degree views of New York City intact.
“SHADES at Edge captures the vibrant energy of New York City in the summer,” Francesca Merlino, chief commercial officer at Hudson Yards Experiences, said.
“We’re thrilled to welcome visitors from across the U.S. and around the world to experience unique, only-in-NYC moments with us at the Edge. Whether it’s your first visit to the city or an annual tradition, SHADES at Edge offers a fresh, imaginative way to take in the 360 views of our iconic skyline like never before.”
Shades was developed by experiential designers at Makeout in partnership with La Roche-Posay, a skincare brand. La Roche-Posay will give free samples of its suncare products to visitors as part of its sunscreen campaign.
The Shades installation is included with admission to Edge, which starts at $40 for adults. The exhibit is on view now through September. Book a visit here.
