Real estate whiz and investor Barbara Corcoran is parting ways with her penthouse overlooking Central Park on the Upper East Side. Corcoran, founder of The Corcoran Group and star of “Shark Tank,” paid $10 million in 2015 for the 11-room duplex co-op at 1158 Fifth Avenue. The home, which has a glass solarium dining room, custom-designed library, and landscaped terrace, is now on the market for $12,000,000.

As first reported by the New York Times, Corcoran first saw the Fifth Avenue penthouse in 1992 when she was delivering letters for a messenger service to “make ends meet.”
“I thought, my god, I’ve never seen anything as beautiful in my life,” Corcoran told the Times about that initial visit. As the story goes, she asked the owner to let her know if the home was ever for sale, and received a call 20 years later.

“I never thought I would ever leave,” Corcoran said in an interview with the Times. “It’s easy to spend money when you’re building a lifelong dream. For me, real estate is emotional.”
Corcoran, along with her husband Bill Higgins, oversaw an 18-month gut renovation that included flipping the upstairs and downstairs floor plans, turning the solarium into a dining room, and adding a chef’s kitchen next to the terrace, according to the Times. The only remaining original feature is the curved staircase.
A semi-private elevator opens onto the 16th floor and into a double-height foyer. From there, the living room features five oversized windows that face Central Park, soaring ceilings, a wood-burning fireplace, and custom moldings.

Also on this floor is the primary suite, which has a dressing room and an en-suite bath. There are two additional bedrooms, both with private baths, and an office. A service pantry discreetly holds a washer-dryer, dishwasher, and refrigerator.
Design and staging studio Vesta Home staged the penthouse. “We wanted to create a cohesive story from the moment you enter,” Christina Slater, creative director at Vesta, said.
“The staircase is a real ‘wow’ moment, but then your eyes are drawn to the treetops beyond the living room. It’s all about layers of experience.”

From the stairs or elevator, the top level features the “most exquisite glass solarium on Fifth Avenue,” according to the listing, allowing for indoor-outdoor dining and entertaining. The stunning dining area sits next to the chef’s kitchen, equipped with a butcher block center island, stone countertops, and top-of-the-line appliances.

Through double mahogany doors is a landscaped terrace with plantings, irrigation, and sweeping views. In the center of this level is a lovely library, lined with built-in bookshelves and three doors that lead to the terrace. A fourth bedroom has a full bath, closet, and outdoor space access.
The property is available fully furnished. The white-glove co-op building was designed in 1924 and offers amenities like a 24-hour doorman, concierge, and fitness center. Maintenance is nearly $11,700 per month.
